Message from the National Lightning Safety Institute:
Outdoor Swimming Pool Safety
Lightning’s behavior is random and unpredictable. We recommend a very conservative attitude towards it. Preparedness and quick responses are the best defenses towards the lightning hazard.
Swimming pools are connected to a much larger surface area via underground water pipes, gas lines, electric and telephone wiring, etc. Lightning strikes to the ground anywhere on this metallic network may induce shocks elsewhere.
The National Lightning Safety Institute recommends the following swimming pool safety procedures:
It is Sequoia's policy to close and reopen as needed throughout the day to continue to be available for the members. If the pools will not reopen by 6:00 p.m. and be able to stay open they may be closed for the remainder of the day. On such days, please look for e-mails announcing pool closings, or call the Club Manager at 615-557-3632.
Please note: No child may be left unattended at the baby pool. This is the responsibility of the parents/guardians. THERE ARE NO LIFEGUARDS IN THE BABY POOL.
Sequoia also has organized activities for swimmers with both an outstanding swim team and dive team.
Sequoia hosts two swim meets and two dive meets each summer. On meet days the Competition pool will be closed until the meet has ended. The Family pool will remain open for the members throughout the day as usual.
