Hours of operation may be affected by bad weather.  The pools will be temporarily closed during storms and reopen as the weather permits. They must be thunder and lightening free for a minimum of 30 minutes before they may be reopened.

Message from the National Lightning Safety Institute:

Outdoor Swimming Pool Safety

Lightning’s behavior is random and unpredictable. We recommend a very conservative attitude towards it. Preparedness and quick responses are the best defenses towards the lightning hazard.

Swimming pools are connected to a much larger surface area via underground water pipes, gas lines, electric and telephone wiring, etc. Lightning strikes to the ground anywhere on this metallic network may induce shocks elsewhere.

The National Lightning Safety Institute recommends the following swimming pool safety procedures:

  1. Designate a responsible person as the weather safety lookout. That person should keep an eye on the weather. Use a "weather radio" or the Weather Channel or other TV program to obtain good localized advanced weather information.
  2. When thunder and/or lightning are first noticed, use the Flash-To-Bang (F-B) method to determine its’ rough distance and speed. This technique measures the time from seeing lightning to hearing associated thunder. For each five seconds from F-B, lightning is one mile away. Thus, a F-B of 10 = 2 miles; 15 = 3 miles; 20 = 4 miles; etc. At a F-B count of thirty, the pool should be evacuated. People should be directed to safe shelter nearby.
  3. Pool activities should remain suspended until thirty minutes after the last thunder is heard. The distance from Strike A to Strike B to Strike C can be some 5-8 miles away. And it can strike much farther away. Why take a chance with lightning?

It is Sequoia's policy to close and reopen as needed throughout the day to continue to be available for the members. If the pools will not reopen by 6:00 p.m. and be able to stay open they may be closed for the remainder of the day. On such days, please look for e-mails announcing pool closings, or call the Club Manager at 615-557-3632.

Please note: No child may be left unattended at the baby pool. This is the responsibility of the parents/guardians. THERE ARE NO LIFEGUARDS IN THE BABY POOL.

Sequoia also has organized activities for swimmers with both an outstanding swim team and dive team.

Sequoia hosts two swim meets and two dive meets each summer. On meet days the Competition pool will be closed until the meet has ended. The Family pool will remain open for the members throughout the day as usual.

Swimmers in lanes
By Kim Sheridan 01 Jan, 2024
Sequoia Cyclones Swim team is a confidence-building experience that teaches children how to improve individually and be a part of an exciting team environment. Sequoia Swim Team has excellent coaches who will help your swimmer learn and improve skills all while having fun. Our team is a part of the Nashville Swim League (NSL), which is a recreational league, and we encourage all swimmers, both new and returning, to participate to the best of their abilities. Swim team is not a substitute for swim lessons, meaning your child must already have a general competency and confidence in the water. The minimum expectation for all swimmers is that they can jump in and progress down the pool on their own. Stopping on the side or holding on to the lane line is acceptable! Sequoia Swim Team offers many opportunities for swim practice to allow children to participate on the team and attend other camps and activities. Both morning and afternoon practices are available so you can determine which fits your schedule best. Registration Registration is open for the 2024 Season! We look forward to having you join the Sequoia Swim Team and are excited for another great season! Registration is through Swimmingly using our club registration code: 2687c990-3afc-11eb-83f7-c2b3e1fb23ce. Click for step-by-step instructions to register your swimmers: Returning Families New Families Requirements & Fees All swimmers on the Sequoia Swim Team must meet these minimum requirements: - Be able to jump in and progress down the pool on their own. Stopping on the side or holding on to the lane line is acceptable. - Compete in at least two meets. For new swimmers, this simply means come to at least two meets and give it a try! Note: There is not a minimum practice attendance requirement. However, the more your swimmer is at practice, the better the chances are that your swimmer will improve! Sequoia Swim Team Fee: $180.00 per swimmer Included in this fee: - Sequoia Cyclones T-Shirt (Must register by May 1 to be guaranteed preferred size) - Latex Sequoia Cyclones Swim Cap - Daily swim practices from May 28-June 27 - A practice meet for swimmers 10&Under ("Mock Meet") - Three Dual Meets - City Meet June 28/29 - Events throughout the season including a Kick-Off Party, Nashville Dolphins Swim-a-Thon Fundraiser, Wacky Wednesday Swim Practice, Team Social including the much loved Family Relays, and an End-of-Season Banquet Contact Swim Moms - swimsequoia@gmail.com
