Indoor Tennis Facility Q&A
Date of Last Update: June 28, 2024
What will the annual usage fee be for the 2024-2025 season?
The annual usage fee will be $300 for the 2024-2025 season.
Please note that the collection of this fee is important to ensure that the courts are maintained and that costs associated with the facility are covered. If you plan to use the facility on a regular basis throughout the year, please support the tennis program at Sequoia by paying the usage fee.
What is a winter contract?
A winter contract is just a weekly reservation for the same court at the same time every week during the 24-week winter season (2nd 1/2 of Oct - End of March). You pay in advance of the season and the court is held under your name. Typically, groups of 4-8 people agree to go into a contract together and split the cost. One member pays up front and the others reimburse the contract-holder. Each week, you can determine who is available to play. Guests can be invited to play for a $15 guest fee.
Can I use a contract to get a regular clinic with a pro during the winter season?
The primary purpose of a winter contract is for member play (versus clinics). Due to high demand and scheduling challenges, the tennis office will not be able to promise a pro in advance of a member selecting a contract spot. After all contracts are awarded, there will be some open spots/times available that the tennis office will be able to use to facilitate private clinics and lessons.
If you are unable to get a clinic during an open time spot and you have a contracted court time, you can reach out to the tennis office to see if a pro is available to teach on an ad-hoc or regular basis. The tennis office will coordinate which pros are available at which times to ensure fairness in scheduling, etc.
My team and/or friends got a clinic with a pro for the winter, can I participate if I didn’t pay the annual usage fee?
Yes, a Sequoia member not electing to pay the annual usage fee may participate in a private clinic but will be assessed a fee of $15 in addition to the cost of the clinic.
Will there be regular clinics and programming offered by the pro’s that I can sign up for as I am available each week?
Yes! The tennis office will be running weekly clinics such as public men’s, women’s and fast feed clinics. The sign-up process for these clinics will operate in the same manner as they do today. Payment of the Annual Usage Fee will NOT be required for participation in the regular pro-sponsored public clinics discussed above and the fees for participation in these clinics will be the same as those paying the Annual Usage Fee.
If I or another member sign up for a contract and cannot use the weekly time slot, will the unused time be available for booking online?
No. Contract time will remain reserved. However, those who hold contract time are able to share their time with friends or family.
What is the process for getting a contracted court time for the 2024-2025 season?
Below is a summary of the process associated with obtaining a winter contract for the 2024-2025 season. For detailed policies and procedures, please review the information on this link on the website: https://www.sequoiaclub.net/indoor-tennis-information
Can I swap my spot with someone else?
Yes, you can swap your spot in the lottery list with someone else provided they (1) have not already entered into another contract and (2) have paid the usage fee. The request to swap must be communicated to the tennis office in advance of 7/30.
Will there be pickleball courts in the indoor facility?
Yes, we do offer pickleball indoors with limited time available. We do ask that all reservations for pickleball are made after the last tennis contract of the day. We do have members purchasing indoor contracts for pickleball. If anyone is interested, we will link all the pickleball requests and keep them on the same night. Currently, we have nighttime pickleball contracts on Thursday night.
Is the height of the indoor facility high enough for play?
The Club was required to build a facility that complied with the standards mandated by the City of Forest Hills and the facility was designed and built to achieve the maximum height allowed under those standards. The standard dimensions for indoor courts for recreational purposes are 29.5 feet above the net. Our facility measures approximately 30.5 feet from the center of the net to ceiling. The only exception is the 5 structural beams that are spaced evenly throughout the structure running perpendicular to the nets. These measure approximately 8 inches wide by 2 feet deep. At those points, the height from net to beam would be approximately 28.5 high. The fans and lighting will be placed on the sides of the courts to allow for maximum height at the center of the courts.
I don’t need access to the indoor courts – will I still have the same access to the outdoor courts? Yes! Nothing changes related to access of the outdoor courts for Sequoia members. The payment of the annual usage fee provides no additional access to the outdoor courts as it only applies to the usage of the indoor facility. We reserve the right to make changes to the outdoor guest fee (non Sequoia members) policy in the future.
